TRPV1 and infarction: Moreover, Cao et al. [57] demonstrated that pharmacological activation of the TRPV1 channel induces hypothermia and produces neuroprotective effects against ischemia/reperfusion-induced injury in conscious C57BL/6 WT and TRPV1 knockout mice, showing that treatment with TRPV1 agonist (dihydrocapsaicin) at the onset of reperfusion induces hypothermia (33 °C), reduces infarction, and improves neurological function in ischemia-affected mice, but hypothermic and neuroprotective effects were not shown in TRPV1-knockout mice [57].
