Universal anti-CD19 CAR T cells were developed by gene editing strategies to knock out the constant region of the TCRα chain and the CD52 gene, in order to make the CAR T cells resistant to an anti-CD52 antibody that is used for the treatment of B-cell chronic lymphocyte leukemia (Quasim et al. 2017). Here, CD19 is linked to B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
