Previous studies of patients undergoing CRC surgery [12,13] have reported a relationship between inflammatory biomarkers (preoperative mGPS and CRP) and infectious complications (Clavien–Dindo 2–5), whereas we found that high preoperative levels of IL-6 and YKL-40 (but not CRP or mGPS) were associated with major complications (Clavien–Dindo > 3a). This evidence concerns the gene CHI3L1 and colorectal carcinoma.
