BRAF and cutaneous melanoma: The most commonly-altered gene in cutaneous melanoma is BRAF, and mutations and oncogenic fusions involving BRAF are present in 40–60% of cutaneous melanomas, spanning most histologic subtypes including superficial spreading, lentigo maligna, acral lentiginous, desmoplastic, Spitz, and those arising from congenital nevi [1,10,12].
