Galectin 3 (Gal-3) is a soluble β-galactoside-binding protein, expressed in epithelial and inflammatory cells in several organs, located both intracellularly and extracellularly (5, 6), involved in cellular functions related to cell adhesion (7, 8), proliferation (9) and differentiation (10–12), the Gal-3 is considered as a biomarker of cardiac fibrosis and remodeling (5, 13, 14). This evidence concerns the gene LGALS3 and fibrosis.
