Due to the nature of alcohol-induced osteopenia resulted mainly from decreased bone formation rather than increased bone resorption (Chakkalakal, 2005 and Figure 4C), anabolic treatments for osteoporosis, such as Teriparatide (parathyroid hormone 1–34), Abaloparatide (a parathyroid hormone-related protein analog drug), and Romosozumab (a humanized antibody against sclerostin), may help address these unmet needs. This evidence concerns the gene SOST and osteoporosis.
