The role of SUMO1 in cardiovascular diseases has recently been studied, SERCA2a is SUMOylated (at lysine 480 and 585 site) by SUMO1 and this SUMOylation is essential for maintaining ATPase activity and SERCA2a stability, which could rescue pressure overload-induced heart failure 40, miR-146a is a novel regulator or upstream of the SUMOylation machinery in the heart 41. This evidence concerns the gene SUMO1 and cardiovascular disorder.
