Besides the STIP-1 studies in C. elegans, TFIP11 has also been linked to proliferation of cancer cells, as it was upregulated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); furthermore, knockdown of TFIP11 expression inhibited NSCLC cell proliferation, possibly due to cell cycle arrest and induction of apoptosis by key cell cycle- and apoptosis-related proteins25.
