Ceriello et al. [58] reported that intensive insulin therapy in T2DM patients under poor metabolic control significantly reduced fibrinogen concentrations in the α2α2 and α1α2 genotypes (P<0.001) of the Hind III polymorphism in the FGB 5’ region (AKA -148C>T, in complete allelic association with -455G>A [32]) but not the α1α1 genotype (Pinteraction<0.001), which they attributed to a relationship between the genotypes and glycaemic control (Fig 4D histogram). The gene discussed is FGB; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
