(ii) Changes in hormone levels: an imbalance of hormone levels, presenting as decreasing levels of growth hormone, sex hormones (especially testosterone), insulin, and insulin‐like growth factor‐1,58 and increasing parathyroid hormone,59 glucocorticoids, and angiotensin II,60 and their interaction with the corresponding hormone receptor cause decreased protein synthesis and increased protein decomposition, eventually leading to the emergence of sarcopenia.2, 5.
