Recently, the relationship between Fam20C and SR Ca+ handling machinery has been illuminated, demonstrating that the phosphorylation of HRC at Ser96 by Fam20C regulates the interactions of HRC and triadin and sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ adenosine triphosphatase-2a (SERCA2a), maintains the SR Ca+ homeostasis, and finally protects patients from cardiac arrhythmias (Pollak et al., 2017). The gene discussed is FAM20C; the disease is cardiac rhythm disease.
