In post-marketing surveillance of diabetic patients receiving SGLT2 inhibitors (Bersoff-Matcha et al., 2019; Fadini et al., 2019; Hu et al., 2020), reports of necrotizing fasciitis of the perineum (Fournier’s gangrene), a rare but serious and life-threatening necrotizing infection requiring urgent surgical intervention, were identified. This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and fasciitis.
