FOXP3 and colitis: The reason why Tregs increase during severe colitis in the absence of mPGES-1 is unknown, but a similar increase of FoxP3+ Tregs was observed at the site of intestinal inflammation in patients with IBD [78, 79], even though the Tregs retained potent suppressive activity [80], implying a possible countereffect of FoxP3+ Tregs against excessive abnormal immune responses associated with IBD.
