Although it would be worthwhile to examine the role of NLRP3 in individual immune cells by cell-specific Nlrp3 deficiency, the present study served as the first step using systematically genetic knockout and/or pharmacological inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome to characterize the role of NLRP3 in the pathogenesis of COVID-19, and we found the potential of targeting NLRP3 inflammasome as immune intervention of COVID-19 disease. Here, NLRP3 is linked to COVID-19.
