SLC15A2, a peptide transporter, is widely expressed in the lungs, kidneys, brain, and eye (Biegel et al., 2006; Kamal et al., 2008; Lu et al., 2016) and is highly expressed in human glioma cells, where it mediates carnosine uptake (Oppermann et al., 2019), although its role in cell proliferation requires further exploration.
