Krabbe disease (KD; globular leukodystrophy globoid; OMIM 245200) is a rare autosomal recessive hereditary disease in which there is lack of galactosylceramidase (GALC) enzyme, which hydrolyzes galactosylceramide and galactosylsphingosine (psychosine, PSY). The gene discussed is GALC; the disease is autosomal recessive disease.
