With ITS-2 being a more conserved genetic marker, it is cautious to rely on CytB for the most accurate identification of such a young lineage, which lead us to conclude that true T.dimidiata is a rare species, with a seemingly limited range; contradicting current opinion that it is one of the most widespread species of the genus Triatoma, and consequently casting doubt on its perceived role as the major vector of Chagas’ disease in the New World. The gene discussed is MT-CYB; the disease is Chagas disease.
