Additionally, Ninj1 was significantly upregulated in both diabetes patients and diabetic mouse models [8, 45], and bioinformatics analysis revealed that the expression level of Ninj1 was significantly correlated with that of both proangiogenic genes and cell adhesion molecules in THP1 macrophages [34], suggesting the pathophysiological implications of Ninj1 in diabetes.
