Since the first discoveries of A2M as a moderator of proteolysis, broader functions for A2M have been proposed, including the enhancement of immune and cancer cell migration and proliferation (13, 14), the promotion of antigen uptake, processing and presentation by antigen presenting cells (15, 16), the ability of A2M to function as a carrier molecule for cytokines and growth factors (17, 18) and the removal of damaged extracellular proteins (19). Here, A2M is linked to cancer.
