Salidroside, the bioactive component of Rhodiola rosea has shown neuroprotective effects, namely increasing the level of neuronal nuclear protein and reducing CD11b (a marker of microglia) through upregulation of the expression of HIF-1α and inhibition of the inflammatory response via the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway after cerebral ischemia in rats (132). The gene discussed is HIF1A; the disease is brain ischemia.
