ZEB1 and gastric cancer: Interestingly, the presence of these miRNAs was associated with a lower level of Zeb1 and upregulation of CDH1 (E-cadherin); the in silico analysis indicated one putative binding site for miR-218 and two sites for miR-519a on the 3’ UTR of ZEB1. In agreement, another report showed that miR-218 diminished the invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer by suppressing the Robo1 receptor, which activates the slit-Robo1 pathway triggering metastasis in vivo and in vitro (Tie et al., 2010).
