Faghihi et al. (Faghihi and Wahlestedt, 2009) found that lncRNA BACE1-AS (antisense transcript of BACE1) increased the stability of BACE1 mRNA through a mechanism that involved the formation of RNA duplexes, and this in turn facilitated the accumulation of Aβ in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. This evidence concerns the gene BACE1 and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
