CD14 and bacterial infectious disease with sepsis: In a series of elegant experiments evaluating CD14+ monocyte expansion, gene expression associations with sepsis severity, myelopoiesis induction in healthy monocytes by plasma from bacterial sepsis or COVID-19 patients, and the role of IL-6 and IL-10 in enhancing CD14+ monocyte expansion, the authors demonstrate that CD14+ monocytes were profoundly immunosuppressive and induced by inflammatory cytokines.
