Notably, a recent genome-wide association study by Saad and co-workers identified SLC8A3, the gene encoding for NCX3, among different genes in which multiple rare variations were associated with the age of onset of AD, thus proposing the exchanger as a possible molecular factor determining the timing of the onset of the disorder (Saad et al., 2015). This evidence concerns the gene SLC8A3 and Alzheimer disease.
