Table 1 shows the comparison of mean age, BMI, vitamin D, and vitamin D-related metabolites in both groups of women. Both groups had comparable age and calcium level (both P > 0.05). However, obese women had a significantly lower mean level of vitamin D; a higher percentage of women with vitamin D deficiency increased the mean level of PTH compared to nonobese women (all P < 0.05). The gene discussed is PTH; the disease is vitamin D deficiency.
