Analysis of the oligomerization state of MATα1 in biopsies of human liver cirrhosis and in animal models of acute liver intoxication demonstrated that the global decreases in MATα1 protein in these pathologies correlate with cytoplasmic accumulation of the protein as MAT III dimers, therefore changing the MAT I/III ratio in this compartment [21,22]. This evidence concerns the gene MAT1A and cirrhosis of liver.
