Initially, Guilbert et al, undertook research on the role of TRPM7 in breast cancer and demonstrated that the silencing of TRPM7 with siRNA in breast cancer cells, MCF-7, decreased both the Mg2+-inhibited cationic current and the influx of Mn2+, resulting in a decrease in the basal concentration of intracellular calcium in the transfected cells. The gene discussed is TRPM7; the disease is breast cancer.
