As CD44 overexpression is an early event in colorectal carcinoma, Wielenga et al. [86] established that CD44 is a target gene of Wnt/β-catenin in mice intestinal tumours, whereby the β-catenin/Tcf-4 signalling pathway mediates transcriptional upregulation of CD44 expression. Here, CD44 is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
