CKD is related to cardiovascular disorders through different mechanisms which include: (1) the production of inflammatory mediators and ROS; (2) the accumulation of AGEs and many uremic toxins, among which indoxyl sulfate is associated with altered monocytes activation, intensified inflammatory process, and oxidative stress; (3) the toxicity of phosphate and the activation of FGF-23 pathway [19,20]. The gene discussed is FGF23; the disease is chronic kidney disease.
