This mixture, when topically applied, has shown to penetrate the stratum corneum (therefore possibly activating skin defensive mechanisms, such as Nrf2 as demonstrated in 2D and 3D models [45,46]), preventing the UV-induced erythema, p53 activation, sunburn cells and DNA damage [52] and surprisingly exerting an additive beneficial photo-protective effect compared to the one mediated by the single elements [21,53,54,55].
