HIF1A and Fanconi anemia: The Fanconi anemia pathway, including FANCI, is activated by acute severe hypoxic stress in vitro (Scanlon and Glazer, 2014), which aligns with the gene expression changes in other markers of hypoxic stress (eg, significant increase in the Hif1-a gene in the crypt at high concentrations, and in the villus at nearly all concentrations of Cr(VI); Supplementary Table 2).
