According to the comprehensive integrative genomic analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), the most frequently genetically altered RTKs in HNSCC are epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) / epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (ERBB2), and fibroblast growth factor receptors 1/3 (FGFR1/3): 15% EGFR, 4% ERBB2, 10% FGFR1, and 2% FGFR3 alterations in HPV(−) HNSCC; 11% FGFR3 and 3% ERBB2 mutations in HPV-positive (HPV(+)) HNSCC [8]. Here, FGFR3 is linked to head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
