Many researchers have proposed that the antiviral properties of lysozyme can be used to treat coronavirus disease (COVID-19) (Mann, 2020), because the immune response that can be regulated by lysozyme (Table 2) is consistent with the typical characteristics of severe COVID-19, such as oxidative stress, inflammation caused by neutrophils, macrophages, TNF- α, and IL-6, and activated RAS system (Jomova and Valko 2011; Chen et al., 2020; McGonagle et al., 2020; Mehta et al., 2020; Park, 2020; Shoenfeld, 2020; Zhou et al., 2020). The gene discussed is LYZ; the disease is COVID-19.
