Although the exact mechanisms behind LPC-induced pain-like behavior are still under investigation, some studies point towards ASIC3 as the main mediator of LPC-induced hypersensitivity.37,58 Of note, elevated levels of LPC and sPLA2, an enzyme family needed for LPC production, have been reported in plasma and synovial fluid of patients with RA and osteoarthritis and individuals with painful joints,30,49,58,102 suggesting that LPC may also contribute to pain in humans. The gene discussed is PLA2G10; the disease is osteoarthritis.
