These results, together with the observation of extensive postnatal cerebral atrophy in both individuals and the presence of apoptotic oligodendrocytes in the brain of individual I (Fig. 2j) demonstrate that neuronal cell death is a hallmark of the disease phenotype as it is prominent in both the affected individual as the zebrafish model as a result of dtymk deficiency. This evidence concerns the gene DTYMK and Cerebral atrophy.
