BDNF and major depressive disorder: Ikegame et al. (2013), by using high-resolution melt analysis, found that hypermethylation at promoters I and IV was also detected in patients with borderline personality disorder. There was a significant positive association between BDNF methylation levels and depression severity, impulsivity and child trauma, however no association was found between BDNF protein levels and DNA methylation levels (Ikegame et al., 2013).
