In addition, the C-terminal subunit of mucin-1 (MUC1-C), in concert with estrogen receptor α (ERα), was identified to activate Rab31 gene expression in breast cancer, whereby Rab31 upregulation, in turn, results in elevated MUC1-C levels, most likely by reducing its lysosomal degradation. Here, MUC1 is linked to breast carcinoma.
