Notch-activated hepatocytes facilitate liver profibrogenic in NASH by both osteopontin (Opn) secretion mediated HSC activation in vitro and in vivo (Zhu et al., 2018), leading to a continuous extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation and liver parenchyma gradually replaced by fibrous tissue (Mederacke et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene SPP1 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
