Of the 14 pancreatic cancer patients carrying the mutant TNF-α 308G/A (rs1800629) gene, 10 patients were cachectic (15%), and four patients were non-cachectic (5%), showing a significant positive association between TNF-α 308G/A gene mutation and cachexia (Figure 1A). The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is familial pancreatic carcinoma.
