In our opinion, although high levels of IL-6 can be detrimental to untreated CD patients and predispose them to severe COVID-19 infection if they are infected by SARS-CoV-2 virus, increased expression of CD4, CD25 and FOXP3 as anti-inflammatory markers in these patients may be beneficial for them with the ability of reducing the severity of COVID-19 disease, which needs to be proven in future studies involving celiac patients infected with COVID-19. The gene discussed is IL2RA; the disease is COVID-19.
