In the progression of malignancy, the downregulation of E-cadherin expression, the transformation of E-cadherin to N-Cadherin on the cell membrane surface, and the conversion of cytokeratin cytoskeleton into vimentin-based cytoskeleton (increased expression of vimentin) indicate that the adhesion ability of tumor cells is decreased, and the ability of movement, invasion, and metastasis is enhanced. This evidence concerns the gene CDH2 and neoplasm.
