analysed genomic DNA from the peripheral blood of 367 patients with SLE and 290 healthy controls in a Brazilian population and found that SIRT1 promoter variant rs3758391 modifies SLE morbidity, with the rs3758391 T allele serving as a risk factor for nephritis and a higher systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index (SLEDAI) (96). This evidence concerns the gene SIRT1 and systemic lupus erythematosus.
