TP53 and inflammatory bowel disease: A recent study analyzed molecular alterations in low-grade dysplastic lesions arising within and outside segments of colon affected by ulcerative colitis, as well as sporadic adenomas from non-IBD patients, and showed that, while all three cohorts harbored mutations in APC and CTNNB1, TP53 mutations were only seen in lesions within areas of known colitis, albeit at low frequencies [51].
