As we mentioned earlier, cleavage of membrane ACE2 into the soluble form is in part dependent on the tumor necrosis factor-α convertase ADAM17 [17], which acts as a metalloproteinase and is upregulated in various diseases accompanied with inflammation and fibrosis [220], such as HF [17,221] or interstitial lung disease [222]. This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and hydrops fetalis.
