The genotyped rs2445411 variant (G/T) (http://grch37.ensembl.org/Homo_sapiens/Variation/Explore?r=12:14999463-15000463;v=rs2445411;vdb=variation;vf=18594244), showing significant association under a dominant model with both severe malaria (OR = 0.64, 95% CI = 0.45–0.90, p-value = 0.010) and parasite density (OR = 0.75, 95% CI = 0.62–0.91, p-value = 0.003), lies within an open chromatin regulatory feature of 385 base pairs (ENSR00000049171) and affects binding sites for several transcription factors as well as the expression of ART4 in whole blood and other tissues. This evidence concerns the gene ART4 and malaria.
