Both Il2 and Il6 pro-inflammatory cytokines that stimulate the inflammatory and auto-immune processes have been suggested to contribute to apoptosis and neurodegeneration in several diseases, including multiple sclerosis [47], Alzheimer’s disease [48], and PD [49], and to play a possible role in exacerbating cognitive decline in relatively early stages. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
