SLC5A2 and Hyperglycemia: Glycosuria can occur when blood glucose levels rise above the handling capacity of the proximal tubule, and inhibitors that target SGLT2, or both SGLT1 and SGLT2, take advantage of this by promoting glycosuria as a novel method for improving hyperglycemia (Marsenic, 2009; Mather & Pollock, 2010; McCrimmon & Henry, 2018; Shepard & Pluznick, 2017).
