Here we also show that CCR in people with schizophrenia might have a different aetiology from that of the general population, i.e. it does not appear to be associated with the most common pathological stimuli, such as pressure overload (no difference in systolic or diastolic BP in schizophrenia vs HC), which usually leads to stiffening of the aorta (PWV not significantly elevated), and activation of the renin–angiotensin axis (no active renin elevation).
