The primary determinant of CoV tropism is their spike (S) glycoproteins, which mediate the viral infection by binding to membrane receptors on the host cells and could be cleaved to the N-terminal S1 and C-terminal S2 subunit by the host proteases such as transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2) and Furin (11). The gene discussed is TMPRSS2; the disease is viral infectious disease.
