Among the different neurodegenerative diseases (NDs), Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the most frequent; its development is directly related to the presence of extracellular plaques composed of amyloid-beta (Aβ) protein, intraneuronal tau (τ) in its hyperphosphorylated form, significant loss of synaptic connectivity and neuronal death, promoting brain atrophy. Here, MAPT is linked to Alzheimer disease.
